Hastings House Showcases Local Musicians In Four Summer Concerts On The Lawn
From jazz to rock, blues to Bach, and a picnic with harbour views—life can’t get much better!
Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada: On a lazy summer afternoon, from the glorious vantage point of Hastings House lawn overlooking Ganges Harbour, what could be better than a gourmet picnic and world-class music wafting from under the shade of a leafy maple tree? Hastings House is pleased to showcase talented local musicians in four Summer Concerts on the Lawn.
July 4th - Departure – Retro-Infusion Quartet, featuring saxophonist Monik Nordine, with Brent Jarvis on fender rhodes, Phill Alberton bass and Buff Allen on drums. This is a young band who is redefining the sound of West Coast jazz. www.myspace.com/moniknordine
July 25th – The Millionaires with Matt Steffich on the guitar, Dave Roland on bass and Lorne Burns on drums, playing a mixture of blues, Rhythm & Blues, and some top forty.
August 29th - KC Kelly and Sandy Profitt, a Salt Spring folk duo. Kelly is a bluesman with a delta feel, his voice and guitar are a pair of instruments that ring and slide together...a great slide guitarist and fine songwriter. His newest album released in August 2009 Wild Card has already garnered rave reviews. Profitt is a well-known vocalist residing on Salt Spring. http://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/KCKelly
September 12th - Salt Spring Chamber Players, with Jim Stubbs on trumpet, Laurie Stubbs on bassoon, and Matthew Stubbs on keyboard. Jim is currently music director and conductor of Salt Spring’s Bach on the Rock Choir and Orchestra. Lauren is both a chamber music coach and performer at the Chamber Music Conference and Composer's Forum of the East. Matthew has been studying piano with the world renowned performer and teacher, David Oei.
Hastings House Chef Marcel Kauer will prepare a special picnic for each guest; wine and beer, as well as CDs by the artists, will be available for purchase. Guests are invited to wander through the gardens and enjoy Hastings House outdoor sculptures during intermission.
In case of rain, the concert will be moved to the Verandah. Advance tickets for $40 including the picnic will be limited to 40; additional tickets will go on sale day of concert if the weather is fair.
For reservations, call 250-537-2362, or toll-free 1-800-661-9255.
